For more than 50 years, Jefferson State Community College has been proud to serve the greater Birmingham area by providing a quality education blended with convenience, value and personal attention. Jefferson State remains firmly rooted in the communities we serve, consistently helping people of all generations acquire the education and workforce training needed to achieve their goals.
Jefferson State serves approximately 15,000 students each year and is one of the largest community colleges in the state. We currently offer more than 120 university transfer programs, 33 career programs and numerous certificate programs at our four campuses in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Chilton counties. In addition to these campuses, we have an extensive online presence to allow flexible learning from any location. Our staff is eager to assist you in finding a program or course that fits your needs.

Banking and Finance
The financial services industry is a dynamic field in which dramatic economic and legal changes are challenging the traditions of all financial institutions. The Banking and Finance Administration program at Jefferson State Community College trains graduates to function in this changing environment. Program Brochure
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BET) performs a valuable function in the utilization of high technology in medical care. Due to the advance in electronics and instrumentation, computerized biomedical equipment is vital in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of medical problems. Such equipment is used for routine laboratory procedures, daily patient care and acquisition of information concerning patient conditions in emergency situations. Program Brochure
The Business Program curriculum enables an individual to acquire the necessary skills in order to find employment in the business area upon graduation. The nationally-accredited JSCC Child Development program seeks to provide students with a well-rounded, specialized, quality education in order to excel professionally with the knowledge and professional skills needed to teach and work effectively with young children and families. Program Brochure
Construction & Building
The increasing complexity of construction projects is boosting the demand for management level personnel within the construction industry. Advances in building materials, construction methods, computer technology and changing building standards are further adding to this demand. Program Brochure
Culinary & Hospitality
The Hospitality/Culinary Management Department prepares students for a variety of positions in health care institutions, schools, restaurants, commercial types of food services, hotel and other lodging operations. The department offers a degree with four options: Culinary Apprentice, Foodservice/ Culinary Management, Baking/Pastry and Hotel-Motel Management. Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMT’s, and Paramedics are licensed medical professionals who provide emergency medical care to the sick and injured in an effort to promote health, alleviate suffering and conserve human life. Jefferson State Community College offers three levels of EMS training and education. Students who enroll in the EMS program will pursue a course of study, which leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree. Emergency Medical Services Brochure.
The Funeral Service Education Program is based upon the concept of cooperative education. It is designed for those who have a state board sanctioned apprenticeship and who are actively seeking to satisfy their particular state licensing requirements. Students must complete an apprenticeship specified by the state in which they expect to practice before they will be eligible for licensure. Program Brochure
The Law Enforcement Program provides a comprehensive knowledge base pertinent to the various areas within the broad scope of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement including but not limited to law, courts, corrections, criminology, ethics and public policy. The program emphasizes the development of analytical skills that are vital in the field of justice, and an understanding of the laws and legally defined procedures that law enforcement professionals must adhere to when working in this field. Manufacturing and Technology is a field of study designed to prepare technically oriented individuals for employment in careers such as production technicians, industrial maintenance, automation, robots, biomedical equipment technology, industrial and commercial electronics, computer aided drafting/design (CADD) and welding. Standards Council (MSSC)
The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) is an industry-led, training, assessment and certification system focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation’s frontline production and material handling workers. The nationwide MSSC System, based upon industry defined and federally-endorsed standards, offers both entry-level and incumbent workers the opportunity to demonstrate that they have acquired the skills increasingly needed in the technology-intensive jobs of the 21st century.
Technology – Phlebotomy
Medical Laboratory Technicians are important members of health-care provider teams. MLTs perform a variety of chemical and biological analyses on blood & other specimens to assist physicians in the diagnosis & treatment of disease. The MLT graduate can choose from a variety of employment opportunities, including hospital laboratories, physician offices & clinics, public health facilities, and research institutions. We offer the Associate in Applied Science degree and prepare students to take the national licensure examination for registered nurses (NCLEX). We have four campuses that offer full time courses to fit a variety of student needs. Find your place at Jefferson State. Nursing Program Brochure
This program prepares students for a variety of office careers involving the use of technology in the preparation, reproduction, distribution, storage, and communication of information. Although this program is not designed to transfer, courses may be accepted for transfer by some four-year institutions. The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is a technically educated health care provider who works under the supervision of a physical therapist. The PTA performs duties and carries out treatment plans as directed by the physical therapist. Duties of the PTA are varied and include but are not limited to the application of physical modalities, exercise programs, gait training, functional activities, and patient education. During fall and spring semesters students may register for classes and participate in Samford Air Force ROTC and UAB Army ROTC programs while enrolled full time at Jefferson State.

The Veterinary Technology Program at Jefferson State is a distance education program. It is imperative that you have access to a computer, the internet, and be available to work or volunteer for a veterinarian for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Students must work/volunteer in a veterinary facility that is located within the state of Alabama. Program Brochure
